Mindelo and Sao Vicente Excursions
Whatever your length of stay in Sao Vicente you should try and explore the island and learn a little bit more about your diverse destination. Mindelo is full of architectural delights that reflect the early British influences and monuments that date back to colonial times and are well worth a visit. These following excursions are available through the Cape Verde Experience Tour Operator:
Half day tour of Mindelo visiting the National Handicrafts Centre, local markets, the port area and seeing Torre de Belom - a replica of the monument in Lisbon.
Full day Island tour - you will drive across the Island going through Monte Verde, the highest point on Sao Vicente at 750m. The amazing views from here are of dark craggy peaks and the Island of Santo Antao. There are just a few inhabited villages outside Mindelo due to the shortage of water and we visit two of these, Calhau and Baia das Gatas.
A day trip to Santo Antao - by ferry which includes an awe inspiring trip across the mountain range to the north of the Island to visit an extinct volcanic crater; Ribiera Grande, a town situated between cliffs of two ribieras and the sea; Ponto do Sol, one of the oldest Barlavento settlements; Vilas das Pombas, a small coastal town renowned for its grogue (Iocal spirit made from sugar cane).
